Welcome to CASA of Siskiyou County

April 23, 2013

This is an open letter of public thanks and profound appreciation for the volunteer advocates of CASA.

It is National Volunteer Week, as well as National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and we can think of no more fitting time to publically recognize the volunteer advocates of CASA of Siskiyou County.

CASA of Siskiyou County is charged with providing a voice for abused and neglected children who, through no fault of their own, are involved in the juvenile dependency court process. We accomplish this task through the commitment and dedication of our volunteer advocates.

A CASA advocate is a trained community volunteer who is appointed by the juvenile court judge to speak for the best interested of abused and neglected children. As officers of the court these advocates serve their children in many capacities. They meet at least weekly with their children serving as mentors, as well as meeting with parents, school officials, family members, doctors and other folks who impact their child’s life. They attend all court hearings and participate in case conferences regarding their children. They compile extensive court reports twice a year also receive ongoing training and supervision from Advocacy supervisors.  …AND THEY ARE OUR VOLUNTEERS.

CASA of Siskiyou County is blessed to have 29 active, trained volunteer advocates. In 2012 they provided 2,132 hours of service for 62 children. Currently 38 children are being served by CASA volunteer advocates with 15 children still waiting for the next available CASA volunteers.

In a perfect world there would be no need for a CASA program – there would be no child abuse, no addiction to drugs or alcohol, no sexual assault or neglect. Children would not need foster care. But until that time we, the Board of Directors of CASA of Siskiyou County, are profoundly grateful for the incredible dedication and service of the CASA advocates for the children of Siskiyou County. Without their tireless volunteer effort and commitment, the children they serve would not have a fighting chance to move forward into a positive life.

Thank you for choosing to volunteer and speak up for a child.  Please be assured that you are making a profound difference in not only their life, but in the health and well being of our entire community.

  With humble thanks,

CASA Board of Directors
